Mantra Socrates
The validity of an idea or action is determined not by whether it is widely believed or widely reviled but by whether it obeys the rules of logic. It is not because an argument is denounced by a majority that it is wrong nor, for those drawn to heroic defiance, that it is right.
The philosopher offers us a way out of two powerful delusions: that we should always or never listen to the dictates of public opinion. We will best be rewarded if we strive instead to listen always to the dictates of reason.

Amen brother, amen. He who dares not reason is a slave. We are not forced to fully accept nor fully reject any philosophical view. It’s okay to be undecided, to be sceptical, and it’s healthy.
Daar is tog seker meer aan die geldigheid van ‘n idee as die kwessie van of dit logies is. Die filosowe het al met hoeveel “logiese” idees voorendag gekom wat op die ou end nogtans verkeerd was. Nee wat nodig is, is die wetenskaplike metode. Daarvoor is filosofie oorbodig.
