It’s only Capitalism, Mr Manual

October 29, 2009 | Emil | Comments 34

I see in the media that ex-Finance Minister Trevor Manual feels regret for purchasing that expensive car. And now Public Service Minister Richard Baloyi announced that the quality of the cars purchased by ministers might be downgraded. But President Zuma reckons these tens of millions rands worth of luxury vehicles are but “tools of the trade”.

Why not bling them all out? It’s only Capitalism. And South Africa, infested with the pernicious poison of politics and politicians! Those incorrigible and tawdry collection of puerile braggadocio’s clearly adhere to the capitalistic maxim, so aptly expressed by Bertrand Russell:

Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortuante must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate.

The new wealth is anything but evenly shared and the gap between rich and poor grows wider and wider. At the same time the conditions of the working people deteriorate, as they work long hours in squalid factories at tasks that are ever more tedious and repetitive. Is it a surprise that true-life idiots like Julius Malema is heralded as a good leader? It was Karl Marx who believed that the instability of capitalism, as witnessed with the “credit crunch” due to the boundless hubris and greed, was certain to grow worse over time, eventually leading to the overthrow of the bourgeoisie by the working people.

we must hope that people realize the truth in Winston Chruchill’s summary:

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.

A smoldering fire. For “profit motive”, read greed; for “free enterprise”, read lack of regulation. And the ambit of our neo-liberal leaders in their fancy cars? Everyone else to have an unfettered opportunity of remaining exactly where they are. So, Trev’s car really is a “fuck the poor” statement.

It is actually ridiculous. But is that not one of the true signs of power, I will because I may, regardless of cost implications. I see the excuse they all use is that it is within ministerial regulations, that is why it is ok – Never mind the cost involved.
    Poepholle.

Shit, I’m a bigot, I‘ve long suspected it. If I were Trevor I would have bought one too. The faster it goes, the more torque there is, the bigger the turbos, the more I want it.

Sorry Malema, you are still a doos.

  4. Ek dink weer die ou verdien dit!

  5. Andrew says:

All things being equal, Malema might be an ignorant, political pawn but for him his life has meaning, and philosophically speaking, attaching meaning to life is what it is all about.

    Ry hom Trevor.

The tripartite alliance, ANC with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) have come a long way with their brand of social democracy. It is now socialism on ground level and raw capatilism in the upper echselons.

Racist bigots! You Phucks rage against Communism and when a guy changes his mind and finally embraces Capitalism and the greater idea of a meritocracy in RSA its still not good enough. Lot of jealous idiots that can never be satisfied – you lot make me think of my standard 8 biology teacher, a raging homo, giving us a course on human reproductivity.

    • Emil says:

“Racist bigots!” Mhmm. In the eye of the beholder, probably.

I see no such. The idea of race is a social construct, which is not mentioned in my social critique. Race should be understood in the context of specific historical, cultural and political circumstances. Human physical variations, including those of skin colour on which racial categories are typically based, are fully explicable, in evolutionary terms, as relatively superficial adaptations to changing environmental conditions.

It’s people like you who scream racism in return to any form of critique that will unfortunately if inevitably prolong the agony of eradicating from the popular imagination an idea that has done so much to blight societies and the lives of individuals.

Thanks for your thought provoking contribution.

Touche, did ya notice how Manuel’s last budget differed both on the projected income (high) and expenses (low) to the actual figures in the one presented by Pravin Gordhan : actual income (low) and actual expenses (high). Now remember Manual made his a few months before the great erection was usurped by JZ. Promises were made to da people of a shiny future and a better life for all. Now we see that expenditure on the poor was in reality increased without a parliamentary debate on the subject – appeasement of the left, without the right even getting a look at the corpse or a sniff of the odour of decay. That my fiend is why Manual deserves his Beamer, he did his job. C’est compris?

    • Emil says:

Fact is that the ministers should set the example for the other governement employees, and by spending these amounts of money on cars (just because regulation allows it), they are setting a very bad example. It has nothing to do with whether it is deserved or not, but about the precedent it creates for dealing with the allocated tax-money on national and local government level.

      • Sammi says:

        Touché Emil!

I would like to know in light of the above monies spent, if it is also healthy capitalism when the CEO of Eskom earns in excess of R1.3million per MONTH?
